12 October 2010

The builders came on Monday and got the house tarped right over the old roof space so that everything could dry out.  They did a better job than me (but there was no way I was getting on the roof to do it like they did!) and got rid of a lot of the water that was lying around inside.  Doors and windows came today, as did roof joists.  The old roof sheeting has all been taken off (but the joists/bearers are still there to hold up the tarp since more rain is coming).  The louvre windows are in and the new roof joists are about half done.  The door frames are huge and really heavy and were carried in via the neighbours yard, up a wobbly plank and in through a space that is now filled by a louvre window.  Tomorrow they will finish the roof joists and start removing the old loungeroom floor.  They need to level it up since there is a 800mm drop from the middle to the edge where the deck is fixed.  It will take a lot of fiddling about and I don't think they are looking forward to it very much.  We have decided on balustrades now and they will be ordered tomorrow and will take about 3 weeks to arrive.  We can't have horizontal stainless steel wiring because of the height from the ground but have found a place in Sydney that makes vertical ones that meet all the safety/Aust standards http://www.sentrel.com.au/index.html
